U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials stated that 70% of immigrant families apprehended at the border since May have not reported or checked-in as they were supposed to. ICE has not provided any explanation or context of this number, but this statistic is deceptive as ICE told The Wall Street Journal that these individuals may still be attending their immigration hearings. The Wall Street Journal quoted NIJC's Royce Bernstein Murray about why this recent information is confusing: "'This data contradicts everything we have known about people complying with orders to report,' said Royce Bernstein Murray, the director of policy at the Chicago-based National Immigrant Justice Center.
