EOIR Chicago recently provided us with an update on IJ assignments and docket reassignments:

• IJ DeAngelis has returned to the non-detained court and will no longer be at the detained court.  She will be assigned new cases and some master hearings on other IJ's dockets may be set for Individual Hearing with her. IJ DeAngelis will also hear all cases that were initially scheduled with IJ Giambastiani on a Friday date. If you had a hearing assigned to IJ Giambastiani on a Friday, that hearing will move forward on its scheduled date with IJ DeAngelis. 
   
• IJ Samia Naseem recently joined EOIR Chicago, Her biography is available here: https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/executive-office-immigration-review-swear-28-immigration-judges-bringing-judge-corps-highest  IJ Naseem began hearing FAMU (family unit) cases on January 21, 2020 and will maintain a FAMU docket.
   
• Update on IJ Giambastiani cases: Except for Friday cases which will move forward with IJ DeAngelis, the remainder of IJ Giambastiani's January and February 2020 cases will be rescheduled with other non-detained judges in Chicago. Additionally, all cases scheduled with IJ Giambastiani from March 2020 on will be reassigned amongst the non-detained judges in Chicago. EOIR has not yet provided a date (besides Friday cases with IJ DeAngelis) when the reassigned hearings will begin moving forward. (Attorneys with non-Friday Giambastiani hearings should continue to call the court and check the EOIR automated information line at 1-800-898-7180 to determine if their hearing will move forward.)
   
• Update on VJ2: The Visiting Judge 2 docket will be rescheduled amongst other non-detained judges in Chicago.
