AWARDEES

Keynote Speaker & Jeanne and Joseph Sullivan Award Recipient:

photo of Aarti ShahaniAarti Namdev Shahani is one of the most eclectic journalists you’ll ever meet. Before becoming NPR’s Silicon Valley correspondent and now an NPR contributor, she was a community organizer in her native New York City, working with immigrants being deported. “I spent my 20s with prisoners, and my 30s with startup founders,” she says. “I like intense people, from all walks of life.” Her heart-wrenching memoir Here We Are: American Dreams, American Nightmares, chronicles her unlikely journey and has garnered critical acclaim. “Riveting…a bruising critique of colonialism” (NPR); “heartfelt, galvanizing” (San Francisco Chronicle); “timely, bittersweet” (Publishers Weekly); “among the finest memoirs written in recent decades...a vivid, almost cinematic journey that is both beautiful and unforgettable" (Guy Raz, Host, How I Built This and TED Radio Hour).
