The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) advances human rights and due process for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers through direct legal services, impact litigation, advocacy, and public education. Headquartered in Chicago with offices in Washington, DC, Indiana, and San Diego, NIJC’s team of 100 attorneys, paralegals, and professionals, along with 2,000 pro bono attorneys, is at the forefront of immigration reform.

 

Summary

As a non-profit organization, NIJC relies on grants, corporate partnerships, event sponsorships, and individual donations to fund its critical work and continue to grow. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands on experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations and event management. The Development Team intern will help secure and maintain funding through various fundraising strategies, with responsibilities including donor outreach, event coordination, and research. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals interested in nonprofit work, philanthropy, and social justice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying potential donors and help manage relationships with existing donors
  • Draft engaging content for donor communications, including fundraising appeals, newsletters, and other touchpoints.
  • Support post-event activities, including outreach, stewardship, event analysis, and event wrap-up for the Human Rights Awards.
  • Provide asistance with data entry, analysis, and database clean-up to ensure accurate donor records.
  • Collaborate with the Development and Communications teams to plan and conduct research for NIJC’s annual appeal campaign.
  • Assist with various administrative and research tasks related to development activities.

 

Qualifications

  1. Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  2. Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team
  3. Interest in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, and social justice work.
  4. Familiarity with fundraising software or database is a plus but not required.
