Special Immigrant Juvenile Status: A Pro Bono Training for Custody Cases in IL, June 2024
Special Immigrant Juvenile Status is a form of protection available to immigrant children who have suffered abuse, abandonment, or neglect by a parent. To apply for the immigration benefit, the child must first be the subject of a state court order making specific findings regarding their best interests. Experts from the National Immigrant Justice Center, along with partners at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, prepare pro bono attorneys to file custody cases in Illinois courts, as well as provide best practices for preparing the orders and working with clients.
