Please join advocates from the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) and Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS) for a training on obtaining Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) predicate orders in Illinois.

SIJS is a form of protection available to immigrant children who have suffered abuse, abandonment, or neglect by a parent. In order to apply for the immigration benefit, the child must first be the subject of a state court order making specific findings regarding their best interests. Participants will learn how to file these cases in different types of courts in Illinois, as well as best practices for preparing the orders and working with clients. This training is intended for attorneys licensed in Illinois. We encourage in-person attendance but virtual participation is available for those who cannot attend in person. Free CLE credit in Illinois is available. This training is generously hosted by DLA Piper.

Presenters:
Dominique Mejia, EJW Fellow and Staff attorney at NIJC
Berenice Sanchez Ruiz, SIJS Pro Bono Project Coordinator at NIJC
Rebekah Rashidfarokhi, Director, Guardianship & Immigration Programs for Children at CVLS
Anne Geraghty Helms, Director and Counsel for US Pro Bono Programs at DLA Piper
