See stories below of people in our communities who have received life-changing legal services. Your contributions on Giving Tuesday will help more people like Helen, Osiel, and Barbara and their families.

Read about why she credits the legal help she got with saving her life.

“Since I got to the United States, my life has changed from night to day.” Osiel is a gay man from Venezuela, who, after a lifetime of escalating discrimination and violence, came to Chicago to start a new life. Read about how getting legal help Osiel get a new start in life, in safety.

“It felt like this would be a great way to give back to the community and help others.” Barbara, a pharmacy resident at a Chicago hospital, wasn’t sure if she’d be able to continue her education because her now-abusive husband wasn’t helping her apply for a permanent green card. NIJC attorneys connected Barbara to counseling services, and helped her gather the documentation needed to prove her case. Read about how Barbara is now making a difference in her community as an essential worker.
