The Midwest Immigrant Defenders Alliance (MIDA) offers free, high-quality legal services to detained immigrants.
MIDA was formed in 2022 by the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), The Resurrection Project (TRP), The Immigration Project (TIP), and the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender (CCPD).
Individuals are referred to MIDA from rapid response networks, statewide hotlines, and community partners. MIDA accepts cases on a merits-blind basis, and when necessary, may triage to maximize capacity and resources.
To qualify for MIDA services, individuals must meet all of the following criteria:
- Illinois resident in immigration detention.
- Household income is under 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
- Do not already have a legal representative.
