On this Human Rights Day, we honor the dignity of all immigrants and the courageous efforts to protect our communities. We have faced a lot together, and in spite of it all, we have ensured safety, stability, and family unity for thousands of people. None of this would have been possible without our community’s commitment to NIJC and the belief in the dignity and rights of all people.
In this special video message, NIJC Senior Attorney Evan Gorelick shares how support from community members like you has helped immigrant children and their families this year, particularly for one young woman who survived human trafficking.
This year, supporters have helped NIJC:
- Provide legal services to over 10,100 people
- Win legal relief in 97% of cases, helping 2,202 people receive legal relief this year and live safely with their loved ones
- Secure release for more than 60 people from detention
- Fight due process and other rights abuses in immigrant detention and challenge inhumane detention practices
- Defend asylum rights by challenging a new federal rule restricting access to asylum
- Challenge ICE’s unlawful arrests through a motion to enforce a federal consent decree
- Educate thousands of people about their legal rights during Know Your Rights presentations
See more about our accomplishments in NIJC’s Annual Report.
We’re proud of all we’ve accomplished together this year and we’re as committed as ever to protecting the human rights of all immigrants.
