252 organizations sent a letter to Senate leaders urging them to reject the House Reconciliation Bill (H.R.1), which would cause devastating harm to American communities. The Senate will soon vote on the bill.
While adding trillions to the national debt, the bill would strip health care coverage from millions of families, increase food insecurity, and push 4.5 million children deeper into poverty—all to fund tax cuts for billionaires and corporations and unprecedented, unaccountable funds for mass deportation.
The bill allocates over $150 billion for immigration enforcement with minimal oversight, which would enable family separations, enrich private prison companies, and undermine constitutional rights and due process. This bill is an attack on kids, families, and all our communities and does not reflect our values.
We urge senators to reject this bill and advance budget proposals that uplift our collective needs, rather than spell poverty and terror for our communities.
