In April 2017,  Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the "Department of Justice’s Renewed Commitment to Criminal Immigration Enforcement." During this public announcement Sessions said he would send 50 immigration judges to U.S. detention facilities. Politico magazine did an in-depth investigation into what the judges did while they were working at these various processing centers. Politico found many of the judges had nothing to do. In addition, by keeping judges away from their cases it created a backlog, causing detainees to be shuffled within the detention system. Read the full article.
