Immigrants are a part of the fabric of our community; some of them are also survivors of crimes committed in the U.S. and/or domestic violence. These survivors often times depend on legal representation to obtain security and to move forward with dignity. Join experts from the National Immigrant Justice Center on May 9th for an overview of the two types of legal protection for immigrants: U Visa and petitioners under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). NIJC staff will present the basic elements of these claims, practical tips for trauma-informed lawyering with survivors of domestic violence, the impact of pro bono attorneys in representing these clients and how to get involved. This training is intended for legal practitioners and 1 hour of free CLE credit is available.  Registration is required; a zoom link will be sent upon registration.
